Week #4         Spiritual Deception

Date: October 25, 2017

Question #6

In what way was Paul himself like the false teachers before his conversion?

Read 1 Timothy 1: 12-17

Response:

Being much like the false teachers, Paul prior to his conversion misused the law.  He lacked grace, faith & love.  God had mercy on him and he became a new man.  Paul is showing in this context that God redeems false teachers.  In the process, He describes what a relationship with God is really based on i.e. mercy, grace, faith and love that are instilled in Christ Jesus.

* Paul went from a Non-christian to being a Christian

  • Paul was very educated but ignorant to the word of God
  • Conversion takes us through the change and transformation

What is transformation?   ans: it’s a change or metamorphosis

Conversion: transfiguration, metamorphosis or transforming

  • We are empowered by God thru the Holy Spirit
  • We are empowered to do all things thru Christ
  • We have all the tools that we need to be a powerful Christian.  We must learn to use it.
  • We must learn how to walk in the narrow path
  • Disciples: one who are learners
  • Apostles: one who teaches

We must be patient with those coming to Christ and learning

Read:

Acts 5: 12-16

Acts 16: 22-30

Our faith makes us whole.

The Holy Spirit transforms us because we are renewing ourselves daily.  The renewing is daily from everlasting to everlasting.  We change on a daily basis.

Lesson #2: Spiritual Deception

1 Timothy 1

Info on Timothy: (honored by God) Paul’s friend and chief associate, who is mentioned as joint sender in six of Paul’s epistles. Timothy first appears in the second missionary journey when Paul revisited Lystra. Timothy was the son of a Gentile father and a Jewish-Christian mother named Eunice. He was, also, the grandson of Lois. Timothy may have been converted under Paul’s ministry, because the apostle refers to him as his “beloved and faithful son in the Lord”and his “true son in the faith. Timothy was held in high regard in Lystra and Iconic and Paul desired to take him along as a traveling companion.

Question #3A
